..I would be interested to find out how they can explain away the fact that she just left that overnight package sitting there....next time you guys should just let it sit and see what happens. Someone has to have her answer for being a dipshit.

Most companies are TERRIFIED of the discrimination card being played...for race, sex, whatever. HR departments have essentially become glorified morale departments since they are effectively cuckholded and unable to truly do their job of hiring, training and motivating a truly effective workplace.

Most companies have resigned themeselves to the reality that it's easier to work around the problem person than to try to remove them.

Barney, you hit it on the head... We're perceived as a white guy company (most 100 year old manufacturing companies are)... We have a day long "training" on "valuing differences" which is bullshit - I don't care what the hell you are, as long as you do your job. Our HR department wants us all to be culturally diverse happy-go-lucky people that lives the corportae mantra, but they don't care if someone is a schmuck. If she was a white guy, she would have been fired long ago.

Our company recruits from 3rd rate schools that are predominantly minorities but won't actively recruit from my alma mater, which is one of the 5 best engineering schools in the midwest... During the "valuing differences" class, they show us this chart of how the races/sexes break down. We have like 1000 employees, mostly engineers (80%) and technicians (10%), and about 800 of those 1000 are white males... the course presenter was talking about how that was so bad considering that the general populace was only like 35% white males. I asked her if anyone had ever looked at the stats for engineering schools before, since most of them are 80% white male too. She said they hadn't, and when I suggested that the problem lies with the type of people who pursue engineering degrees, not the company, she got all huffy... insisiting that we have a diverse company, apparently rather than a company full of talented hard-working employees.

Anyway, I found out the woman's boss is someone I can talk to, so I'm going to try to get him outside of work and bring it up...

I was thinking about overnighting a package to her boss, with a note inside that said "this was sent overnight express on <date>. Since it probably didn't arrive on <date+1>, something is obviously wrong with a step in our process... "


Of course, I'd get fired for abusing the company shipping department...
