Actually, I'm dead serious in the previous post. I like what I do, but I've been bored to tears at work the last couple months. I just don't know what I should be doing, and more significantly, where I should be doing it. I'm very indecisive when it comes to these things. I also dread the entire job discovery process - cover letters, resumes, interviews... ugh. I am an absolutely horrible interviewee. I've probably only had 3 good interviews in my life, and got 2 jobs and an offer from them. My interview at Honda was embarrasing, and I had a couple phone pre-interviews where I knew I had no hope within 5 minutes of answering the phone...

Jeff, I feel for you on that score. It must be tough dreading the process. I'll just offer this... have some confidence in yourself, man! You're a bright guy with a great sense of humor. Don't let the man keep you down!

As a man of little/no faith, I believe you have to make shit happen for yourself. And, BTW, it's usually good to work from a position of employment. Seek out the interesting stuff to push yourself.

That said, if you really do enjoy your job, then this is a lot of hot air. I just hate to see my peeps unhappy!

Well, with exception of the Honda interview, I was fairly confident going in... but not going out. The Honda interview, just about everything went wrong - forgot my suit (ever shop for a suit in an unfamiliar town at 2am?), wasn't really prepared for getting interviewed by 3 people at once, etc. I have a decent education (very good engineering school, decent GPA, etc), and some very good work experiences that most 25 year old engineers don't have. I just run into questions that I really struggle with (the BS questions - I do fine on technical stuff). And now that I haven't had an interview for going on 3 years, getting back into the swing of things is an uphill fight - as I'm sure you're aware.

As for my job... well... you'd have to spend time there to fully understand why it can seem so bad... imagine a running joke about how little work we do - now make that a reality. What work we do do is good stuff, and borders on being fun at times!

*sigh*

Hmm, correct me if I'm wrong. The real problem seems to be poontang, or scarcity thereof...

Yes, I've found that getting laid once in a blue moon solves a great deal of my problems. How often are blue moons? I think it's been that long.
