Hey WSB or anyone else except Mikey - I have a question for you..... do you know IE really well????

I've got a weird happening I can't figure out. Ever since I reloaded my computer some ad blocker is in effect. I turned off pop up blocker and security and still no ads. I know this sounds silly cause who wants ads. BUT... I also miss lot's of stuff on web sites. like on My Space I can't see my comments I don't have links from sites sometimes either.

Any ideas????

The other issue is that I still need to build the garage to have a place to store the Caterham...
A ramp, a wide double-door, and the Cat is in the living room Plus, you can probably get state and federal money to do the work by calling it "handicap access"

Good point...I DO have French doors that lead right into the living room that could work!

Try Tools->Internet Options, and look at the Privacy page.

Good luck, Nancy.

I already have pop up blocker off. I like some pop ups like when I'm shopping on line and I click on something, I like to see it. But this is more than that.... for instance I was shopping for tires thru a friends web site - he had a link to Tire Rack so I could buy and he'd get credit. there was no link on my computer. I went to another computer and was able to get the link. It's really weird. I've checked all my IE settings. I was hoping that someone else had run into this and had a soluntion.

BTW - I get no ads, even this site. Plus stuff is unavailable on My Space!
when you say there was no link, do you mean the link was literally not on the website? or do you mean you couldn't open the link in a new window?

lots of broadband services employ their own anti-spam/pop-up software so you may want to check on that. also, certain toolbars (google, yahoo!, etc) have their own pop-up blocker. you'll need to turn them off also.

if anything else, you can go to your Task Manager (right click Taskbar and go to Task Manager) to see what processes are running. don't know how much you know about what, but you can look through the process names and/or the file directory to see what it is. you could possible have another pop-up blocker program installed on your computer, but it's operating in "Invisible" mode (doesn't even show up in the System Tray).

He was referring to the Pop-Up Blocker feature. you can access the settings from the tab he mentioned.

the easiest way to fix this, like brant mentioned, is to stop using IE. Mozilla Firefox is popular, free, and a small download. very easy to use.

The link is auctually missing - plus the other computer 12 feet away on the same service is not doing what mine is.

I've disabled pop up stopper, lowered the privacy setting, checked every setting I could think of. This happened when I reloaded my system and updated everything. Maybe a XP fluke????

Nancy, try Tools->Internet Options and this time go to the Advanced tab. If you scroll down to the bottom, there's a bunch of security-related check boxes... Maybe one of these is your culprit. I wonder if there's a way to reset all these things to "factory defaults."??

Yeah, in the Advanced tab of the IE Properties, there's a button 'Restore Defaults.' That may work, but you can give this a shot. It repairs your registry.

Save as...
http://www.tacktech.com/pub/winsockfix/WinsockFix.zip

Unzip it, then run the program (very simple) and restart when it says to. It may fix it.

I'm having a similar(?) problem with my computer (not specifically IE) where my email clients and newly-updated programs can't detect my Internet connection. I finally updated my AIM (the stupid pop-ups were annoying) and now it doesn't work. I updated my LimeWire and it doesn't work either. The program I linked you, WinsockFix, should fix any Internet connection problems; which yours may be.

It could also be a DirectX and/or JavaScript problem, so you can also try downloading the latest drivers and modules.
