Going off-topic...I saw the very embodiment of "what is wrong" on my way back to the office today.

Very obese, cigar-smoking foreman got into a mid-90's Cadillac Sedan deVille (built in Canada, if I remember correctly). Which, from the stain on the rear bumper, was in a bad state of tune. But, he had his Green Party baseball cap in the rear window (thus obscuring his rear vision) and his anti-bush, anti-oil, anti-war bumper stickers proclaiming loudly his political views. After cutting me off in traffic, he sped down the highway in a cloud of smoke. There I was, in my Honda Accord, built in Ohio, getting better gas mileage, but he's pissed at me because I didn't "buy American". And my health insurance costs will rise to pay for his bypass, no doubt

Beware Gink... knowledge found here.
Crude has actually been on a 3 day slide down from about $54. Heating oil and natural gas are going up to make up for it.

Interestingly enough, diesel fuel has continued to rise while gasoline has stablized... I've yet to find a reason.

That said... oil company profits/stock values and oil cost are two seperate issues; Bush has a significant impact on the former, and a less significant impact on the latter - assuming he doesn't invade another oil rich country that is.

I should probably qualify that last statement, but I doubt anyone who disagrees would be able to grasp the logic.

Indeed. The article references this and the impact as being a result of Kerry in the race and states, " "A Bush victory will be big for oil demand and keep prices high," said Phil Flynn, an analyst at Alaron Trading in Chicago. "Not only will the SPR be filled, but I think they may expand it"

This means it's Bush's fault.

I agree. Gas and oil prices are not subject to the law of supply and demand, and crude oil prices have not risen because China and India are buying more oil because of their expanding economies and increasing demand. Prices have not been affected by the busy hurricane season which crippled domestic production from the Gulf of Mexico either. It's all because of dubya and his craaaazy warrrz. [/sarcasm]

p0pe, why would you do that?

Although the oil market is not a perfect free market (oligopoly and OPEC) they are of course subjected to S&D. I know you understand that even though you obscure your grasp of these complex issues with your sarcasm.

Nobody disputes these factors you cite (China India hurricanes etc.) but do you understand that elections are affected by petty little things like who the president of the United States is? Do you deny also the war has an impact?

So I ask again... why would you do that? Why would you wade in to a discussion you don't fully grasp and explain that you don't fully grasp it?

Dude I was joking around, it wasn't a serious followup nor was meant to contribute to the conversation in any way. This is the corner, isn't it?
