Just throwing some other ideas out there...
If you want "interesting"...

turbo all wheel drive...sort of the EVO zero. Quick, rare, roomy, comfortable, built...just get one from the south or southwest.

Fast, reliable, proven. The LS1 isn't THAT much heavier than the Mazda 1.8L.

Actually considered a V-8 or rotary swap into the Miata when I blew the engine a few years ago.
As much as I love the Grand National, wouldn't want to actually own one as my only car. I want something that handles...

I owned one of those back in the day, goes like a raped ape in the straight line throw in a corner and it handles worse that a tiny boat on the high seas! Which is all over the place!
