Now you know you cant compare G4 Mhz speeds to x86 speeds

This will be a great "switcher" computer Tired of ing virus/spyware/malware lovers will be buying this in droves
I wasn't looking at the processor speed, as they're not easily comparable. I was looking more at the limited system memory, outdated graphics chipset with very little memory (32 mb), diminutive hard drives (80gig?), only 2 USB ports, no onboard audio processing capability (only pass through from the DVD), etc. To get wireless, you have to get the rather pricey ($129) Airport Express 802.11g option when you order it. The $499 price doesn't include such niceties/necessities as a keyboard, mouse, speakers, or monitor.

I recently bought a computer from Dell for my mom. $600 got me/her a so-so spec PC (p4 2.4 Ghz, 512 RAM, 80 gig hd, DVD/CD-R combo drive, etc) that can be easily and affordably expanded, a 15" LCD display, a printer, keyboard, mouse, etc etc. Granted it's a windoze box with all its vulnerabilities, but there is no comparison when it comes to value.

I don't see how this is a switcher computer unless the person is only interested in being stylish and surfing the 'net.

Your last line is the most important ..... most homes users (non gamers, non power users) define "switchers" they just want a computer to NOT take up an entire desktop and to surf the web and balance their checkbook .....other than no built in wireless (next revision) .....this is the prefect computer for them FYI. MacOsX has built in audio processing

Windoze has audio processing capability too... but it sucks off 5-10% of the CPU, and that's with well optimized codecs. The cost of a single chip solution is low and works much better, particularly for multi channel audio - which eliminates good movie watching IMO.

This would be a very good choice if the price was much lower - $250-300 maybe. $800-900 for a full system with so many limitations...

Good reading

Even loyal iPod users have resisted Apple computers because they are perceived to be expensive and not compatible with the so-called industry standard of personal computers based on Windows and Intel microprocessors.

But the advantages for consumers of using a Windows PC are less significant if they are performing common Internet and entertainment functions. Moreover, the computer viruses, worms and spyware that plague Windows machines have been far less of a problem for Macintosh machines.
