PC makers (IBM comes to mind) tried this about 4-5 years ago. Nobody bought them because the functionality was so diminished that the form (which was pretty cool) was irrelevent.

Yeah, there's a flip switch on the back to switch between shuffle and linear play. The problem, as I see it, is that the linearity of your gig of music (10-15 hours worth) is determined when you load the music. If I'm listening to a song, my only choices are a randomly chosen song or whatever song is next.
