We don't have smog here in MI, but I've watched numerous car programs when they've built/rebuilt the car from the ground up and register it as old. Pretty sure Boyd Coddington got fined massively for this a few years back.

Though I am glad you'll be getting your car finally.

SO apparently there are 2 choices on the determination of Smog checking 1. The Year of the BODY & 2. The year of the Engine
we can choose..... Choosing 1. makes it a 1957 Body and that year is exempt.

Trust me this is ALL VERY 2 mom KINDA glad in a weird way we've gone thru it in hopes to help ANYONE else who may choose to go this route vs purchasing a pre-owned Replica that's already registered in CA

I too am GLAD to be finally getting the FREAKIN Car & hope all is great on / with it

Oddly last night took the Youngest & Mrs. to In n Out on the way to the airport as they have no In n Out in Denver & wanted it
I spied a Black Coupe with Beehive Rear lights in the lot.... went to check it out & some DUDE is doing something to it inside he said it wasn't a replica but not sure I believe him as it had the ABOVE Frunk exposed Gas CAP & I'm not sure they did that originally

anyhoooooo my Son says it sure is a looking car made mom happy he's just sad he had to leave 2 day prior to it being in the garage

All good

I'm still confused by the 1957 body, that would imply it's a real body produced in 57, but it isn't, right??

Hmm, so reading the JPS Q&A, the registration is based on the model year of the floorpan of the donor car. Interdasting. Floorpan from a 57 bug, everything else is new. I'm surprised Cali is that lenient of stuff like that considering how they are with other stuff

This one I saw in person at CNC & think it looks weird butt thats just me
& that E brake is some FUNkY $hit

The OTHER reason I the Boy wasn't telling the truth is it had a HAND MADE DECAL on the side window that read For Sale
I said " oh its for sale? " he replied well it was, he said he was taking it to AZ

Why would he leave the For Sale Sign on it if it sold AND he was wearing a face mask like the painters use

what ever not important butt again wish me luck tomorrow please
Spoiler

The insurance won't cover the Vehicle until it has its VIN # so were gonna trailer it home. The thought of something happening to it on the way gives me a tummy ache
