Looks like Microsoft really REALLY hates Apple
My apple discount is through work.. and is way better than a student discount.. example.. I saved a whopping 100 or so dollars on my G4 when I got it as a student. NOW.. I can save around 700 dollars on a 17inch Powerbook vs retail.

That's what I've always heard. But every time I'm tempted to buy a PC because it's 'cheaper' the price always seems to go way way up. - By the time I add the features needed to make it comparable to an Apple, most of the time the PC is just as much if not MORE EXPENSIVE.
<-- Never owned a PC. They're too costly.
I can get a PC...
Athlon 64 at 2.7 GHz
1 gig CAS 2-2-2-5 RAM
Mobo with onboard 10/100/1000 LAN and 6 channel audio.
Dual GeForce 6800GT SLI video cards (you can get a single 6800 GT as an upgrade on the G5)
74 GB 10000 RPM system drive
RAID 5 controller with 4 160 GB 7200 RPM drives (480 GB logical partition)
16x DVD-ROM
8x DVD-R
Case of your choice, 430 W power supply, keyboard, optical mouse
WinXP Professional...
For about $2200 (the RAID array adds around $500 to that cost, so $1700 with just the the 74 gig drive) using all top-notch components. A G5 with 1 gig ram, dual 2 GHz procs, 160 GB main drive, no RAID storage, single 6800GT, and a superdrive [which doesn't facilitate easy disc duplication] is $2500. You can get into a pissing contest over which is faster or more capable, but the PC is a whole lot more computer for less money. Dual processors are neat, but very few applications make use of them.
I was going to say that this is as bad as an AP1 vs. AP2 debate, but actually it is much better because one of these products is clearly superior to the other.
And it shouldn't have become a hardware debate.. the thread title refers to the corporation whose name shall not be spoken, and who as far as I know still does not build their own hardware.
