I got mine out when I was 18, and they wouldn't have pushed out til I was 20-21. Most "kids" don't have the wisdom teeth out naturally (which is why they're called wisdom teeth!). My dentist, orthodontist, and oral surgeon all said if they aren't pushing or poking, they stay. Mine were pushing my teeth around, and getting them removed was cheaper (and less painful) than going through a 2nd round of braces. It's really not that bad. Most medical/dental insurance will cover it, as well, since it's not considered cosmetic.
I also have a bad back, and have had it since I was 18... My freshman year in college, I had spasms several times to the point where I couldn't move - fortunately they always happened in my room so I didn't look like a moron... well, any moreso than I already did...
