That would be a good incentive to keep the top down wouldn't it ....
Since we happen to have wandered into a topic near and dear to my heart (SUV's) I figure I'll wander off on that tangent for a moment.
I have absolutely no problem with SUV's of any sort as long as the owners NEED the vehicle. If you drive a full-size SUV, do you have 7 kids that you haul constantly? Do you haul a boat or a trailer for a living, or at least on a consistent weekly basis? Do you own a business that requires that you haul a large quantity of "stuff" over terrain that requires you to have four wheel drive (rather than all-wheel drive)?
If you meet these criteria...knock yourself out. Buy an SUV. Drive it all over the place. You can justify it.
The OTHER criteria is people that drive SUV's with the emphasis on SPORT rather than UTILITY. This would be Jeeps and Hummers and other vehicles that have as their claim to fame their off-road capabilities. Unless you are out on the trails with the transfer case in low range as your regular hobby (weekly or at least every couple weeks), get that damned thing off the road. If you DO use it...knock yourself out.
However, regardless of whether or not you meet these criteria, I am absolutely and completely sick of hearing people cry about how lousy their gas mileage is or how poorly the vehicle handles. You bought a freakin' truck...learn to cope! You want something that handles like a car...buy a freakin' car!
Yes, currently I own an SUV. However, I drive it on average 1 day a month and I am actively trying to sell it because I meet neither of the criteria above. I admit that the space it has is nice, but I would rather drive a sport wagon than a big SUV...and it's just too darned nice for me to take out on the trails and beat up like it's actually capable of beating up.
As far as I'm concerned, my Miata will do anything I need a car to do at this point in my life. A daily driver would be nice...but definitely not needed. If/when I need a second car I'll probably pick up a cheap compact pickup to haul stuff and do part time duty on the trails...but it will be a WORKING truck and not something that I drive on a regular basis.
Ok...done with my rant.
Ninh, I'm still not clear on why you are looking for a daily driver. Is it just to keep the mileage down on the S or do you need a more practical car? Seems to me that it's just another thing to dump money into unless you really need it. The S should accomodate most things (hauling skis or boards or bikes) fairly easily. I have a little ski rack that attaches to the passenger window that carries 2 pairs of skis quite easily...and I think they make them for boards, too.
There are also a couple different bike rack options for the S that would allow you to carry a couple bikes in a manner similar to a Yakima or Thule rack but trunk mounted (bike essentiall rides on top of the trunk)...
