Oh, all right. I'm remediating toxic heavy metal-contaminated soil inside three contiguous buildings in Hollywood, with a small bobcat backhoe excavating and a large backhoe loading out soil into trucks in an alley (another alley story). A large apartment, several stories high, was located just across the alley from us. The bobcat comes out of a building with a full load of soil and the weight was apparently too much for worn tires and BAM one rear tire blows then, about two seconds later, BAM the other rear tire blows. Sounded like gunfire. It even startled me and I was looking right at it when it happened. People in the apartment building came out on their balconies and came out in the alley yelling aand running around and acting crazy (this is Hollywood, there are many, many crazies). Four squad cars scream up, cops get out with their guns drawn, and order everyone to freeze. One cop asks who's in charge and I raise my hand and point to the backhoe with two flat tires. End of story.

 

heh heh.....I've actually heard a real gunshot go off in town and not one cop even showed up.

Gotta love Oregon City.

Remind me next week to tell you about the time I was digging a giant 60-foot deep excavation with a long-reach excavator in a downpour and my work boots got stuck in the mud and I literally couldn't move. (Is that one long, awkward sentence or what?) And no, I'm not getting into it now.
