S2000 in the INdy 500. Hypothetical
I could have posted this elsewhere (S2000 Talk for example) but would rather here the opinions of the WHores first.
Given a big time machine and able to take your S and gas etc to the past... how far back would you have to go to win the Indy 500? I've wondered about this for some time.
The S can go about 250 miles on a fill at roughly 100 MPH with a good to great degree of reliability. I'm not sure how fast the S could take those corners but it would be up there.
Rick Harroun won the first 500 in 1911 with an average speed of 74.59 mph. I don't recall if there were yellows to slow the pace.
What do you think?

If I remember correctly, I think the average speed in the 1930's at indy was around 120mph...you could have won then...the corners at the brickyard would be no problem, it would just be hammer down the whole way. (plus 9o of banking...)
of course you'd need the right tires, blah, blah......

Yeah the time machine would ensure good new tires.
The 30's was around 100mph... do you mean they were travelling around 120 and the 100 is due to yellows? If not it was the 50's before they were breaking the 120's on average. (See chart above).

That might be it...maybe the polesitter qualified at 119-121 or something...if you notice from Sundays race, when the race was uniterrupted the lap speed was 214-219, in there...and yet the average speed was (185..??)
