Don't forget, you're talking average lap times, not just the straights.

It's a good question, John. I wonder if anyone has taken a stock S out at the brickyard for a few laps.

My view:

A bone stock S2000 would be hard pressed to win after 1950. I don't see the car sustaining more than 135 through the turns (basically redline 5th gear). Maybe get up to 145 at the end of the long straight, 140 in the chutes. The S2000 gets about 8 MPG in mixed track duty, so figure 6 MPG at full bore. With a 13 gallon tank, you're looking at 6-7 fuel stops (and a new set of S02s). Factor in a few cautions, and you're looking at a 120 MPH race.

Now, throw in a Mugen hard top, 3 piece spoiler, some R compound tires, and I think you get 7-10 more years (135-140 MPH average).

Thanks Chazmo!

To your point about wondering if anyone has done laps at IMS?.... I looked hard yesterday and couldn't find anyone posting. It would sure help... especially with the corner question.

Oh... BTW. I agree it would be fun to look again with mods but it gets so difficult (which wing? do we allow blowers? etc...). With Stock we all have a standard.

You're mods would indeed push it up a few years.

Here's the thing though... (maybe the only thing about being old)... I'm starting to believe I have a car that could have won the Indy in my lifetime.
