Those sandals actually look pretty sweet if you have the calves for them.

My mileage estimates were conservative.

You mean leanest I dont know about you guys, but going down 5 at 100+ I get 30+ mpg.

Also, our engine creates less drag as the rpms increase.
The stock ECU, at least in early AP1 models, ran rich after VTEC engaged for various reasons. It's an area where people have gained power by leaning it closer to stoich with piggyback ECUs.

As for the reduced drag, I suggest a physics class.

I may be confused S2k-T... You're saying you get 30mph going 100mph (and more) in 5th gear? I'm afraid I don't believe your numbers.

... and Billy is right about drag. You've got that wrong too.

I'm still not sure about the fuel assumptions, notably 2 stops...

IMS: 2.5 miles, 100% duty cycle, approximately 1 minute/lap (150 MPH)
LS: 2.24 miles, 70% duty cycle, approximately 2 minutes/lap (67 MPH)(10 MPG)

70% is an estimate based on my Forza playing (my only empirical data point ). I didn't figure on load, even though it's much easier to accelerate in 2nd or 3rd than it is in 6th, mainly because I'm lazy and math is hard.

So (very) roughly speaking, on-duty fuel consumption is 10 gallons/hr below 100 MPH. That works out to be about 35 gallons for the Indy 500 (slightly better than 13 MPG, actually) assuming 140+ average speed. If you put in the load factor (more drag @140+ vs 60-100) it would probably slide up to 40-45 gallons.

Realistically that is at least 3 stops. You're not going to run the car on vapors so I'd say you get 12 gallons usable. In the end a small change, I guess. And lots of wasted brain power.

By 5 he meant I-5, I assume. 30 MPG going 80 MPH in 6th is quite doable, so at least instantaneously, 30 MPG going 100 MPH might be happening - the engine isn't working all that hard at 100.
