Saw a really gruesome thing thid morning.
I've grown up in areas where this stuff happens all the time. I guess my upbringing has numbed me quite a bit cause it wouldn't bother me. Skunks and opossums are bad news for cats too. Dogs always seemed to find porcipine quills all the time out there as well. Nature at it's finest.
It's the owners fault for letting that cat outside IMO.

Same here luke. Our cats that ventured outdoors got in a lot of fights - coons, possums, dogs, etc. Raccoons can kick a cat's butt, too! Of course, I also grew up in an area where shooting them was pretty much accepted...
Also, there were times when having deer outside my window was a semi-regular occurence...

Yeah...at my parents, same place I was raised, deer walk up all the time. Sophia even witnessed that when here.
Shooting what Billy? The cats or the other critters?

I had to shoot the skunks that kept coming around. They kept spraying the house and stuff. My mom wouldn't let us kill them until she got sprayed herself one time in the garage!

There are also a few ferral cats in the area. My mom has opened up shooting season on them as well ever since one of her cats got HIV and had to be put to sleep from fighting with them.

I guess the only alternative is to not eat meat, but I believe that our bodies were designed to need the proteins and vitamins provided by different meats. That's why we're classed as omnivores. And honestly, sometimes vegetables just suck!
Now hypocracy would be for me to say "Don't eat meat... It's bad!!!" I merely wish there was a more humane way of doing so.
Speaking of hypocracy, when was the last time YOU hunted and trapped your own bagel there Mr. man?!?

I see your point, and I respect it as well, but I don't think that it's quite hypocritical. I simply believe that no animal should be made to suffer, even though some always do. I would actually feel better if I was able to walk up to a steer in a field and humanely end the beasts life without alarming it. But as long as there is an adequate supply in the store, I don't see it necessary to do so. I have to refrain from reading stories about cattle processing because it makes me uncomfortable and sometimes angry. The animals are very aware of what is about to happen to them, and many of them resist as best they can. I get very sad whenever I pass a cattle truck on the highway, because I can see the fear in every set of eyes.

OH..BTW....I've also quit hunting now that I don't eat the meat anymore. I don't believe in hunting just for a trophy.
that is sad raptor. It's tough to lose a friend. My neighbor lots both his cat last year within a week of each other. We found the skull and fur of one a couple weeks later (along with his color), the other only left a trail of blood.
