So, I just did some Wikipedia browsing, and the format issues are starting to make a lot more sense.

Due to shorter distance from lazer to disc, and slightly better control of the spec and physical disc production, it would seem that the people who say, "Blu-Ray is HANDS DOWN better than HD-DVD" are merely enjoying the pleasant side-effects of reduced jitter on the disc, not some cream-your-pants difference due to codecs or access.

I can perform some serious black magic on CDs to prove a point. . . that reminds me, I really should invest in one of those CD lathes. . .

Do you need to game? If not, then just buy the player that puts out the best picture and has the appropriate (and best-for-your-setup) audio.

Sony calls the PS3 future-proof. Firmware and software updates have been constant. Each time adding more and more features. The bigger features roll out next year. 'PS Home' should be interesting. Their business plan is for the PS3 to have a ten year life cycle. They currently still lose money on each one sold. Long term investment for them.

I've heard these claims before from Sony. Call me skeptical.

Even then, not having a single point of failure to entertain me kinda rocks.

I occasionally have to perform voodoo to get HD-DVDs discs to play. All my BluRay discs just play... no problems.

everything I've been able to scavenge about BD suggests Ken knows what he's talking about and that 8D like to eat cold crunchy poop.
