The Semi-Official Hockey Thread...
I've watched games for 6 hours before. It gets old. I wouldn't mind seeing a 10 minute 4 on 4; as I don't think 5 is really enough.
I also think the TV networks and stadium managers would have major issues with it.

No they aren't planning on incorporating the shootout system into the playoffs.
Shootouts will only be used if the game is in regular season, and the score is tied after the full 60 minutes of play time, plus the 5 minutes of 4-on-4 overtime.
Playoffs will still be Sudden Death OT.
As far as I'm concerned, the shootout system should not be brought into regular gameplay. Shootouts are a novelty item that should be left to Exhibition games. If you want to see a player breaking in on a goalie... wait for a penalty shot!
The 3-1-0 (win/tie/loss) system is long overdue.
Have any of you seen pics of the proposed net changes?
4 inches taller. 8 inches wider. Curves bars to allow my open ares to shoot at (some people like that... more scoring opportunities... I think it's ridiculous).
As far as the goalie equipment goes, I'm glad they are going to finally tone that down. Every year, the equipment got bigger, the shirts got baggier (Giguere, I'm talking about you
). Look at old footage of Patrick Roy back in his early days with Montreal, or at Grand Fuhr (coke-head) back in the glory days of Edmonchuck. That wasn't that long ago, and their equipment looks tiny compared to today.
The league doesn't need bigger nets to create more scoring opportunities, the player skills and scoring abilities are certainly there... they just less goalie in front of the target, and the same result will be achieved.
Tag-up offsides are nice to see, it works for the WHL.
I didn't see mention of any rule changes to icing though. They have been talking about getting rid of the puck chase to beat out the icing call for a long time now - to many serious injuries when guys go hard into the boards. I know Don Cherry would love to see some rule changes there!

Thanks for the clarification Monkei. I agree with you too about the shootouts.
Billy, you know where I stand on this one. If most of the existing rules were called the way they're written the game would inherently be more exciting. Fewer punch ups but more exciting by a long shot.
