Capital, name recognition, contractual obligations (most players are still under contract with NHL teams).
But the owners have already broken those contracts.I know it is highly unlikey. However, I wouldn't mind seeing the owners getting screwed by a new league.
Of course the players would have to take a huge pay cut to reduce the risk of the new owners. Perhaps, the players could get partial ownership in the league in exchange. Okay, I will wake up now.

No need to remove the red lines... just call the rules as they're written...

Wouldn't no red lines mean no offsides which means faster action and more scoring?

However, if you simply enforce the rules (notably obstruction) it frees the players up. A good winger skating full speed can take a pass and be behind the defensemen in a flash, but as the rules are called the D-man can simply turn and hook/hold the winger even though he is clearly beat.
Just to clarify - taking out the redline eliminates 2 line passes, a different form of off-sides. you could pass the puck from your goal line all the way to the opposing blue line and it would be legal.

The Violators?
San Jose has had the LaCrosse team for a few years now. I know the first season, games were free and held immediatly after a Sharks game.
Joel Bartlett? I like Leigh Glasser.
Eric Thomas, the morning anchor, is the son of my childhood physician.
