The Semi-Official Hockey Thread...
So Coutier out and Bertuzsi in and the Canucks will win the cup? Monkei what did I say to you about smoking crack? Bad Monkei.

I don't think the Canucks have a snowballs chance at the cup. They need a total restructure to be considered a viable threat, not one ole Bertuzzi. I like the Canucks just fine... just don't think it's realistic.
Do you really?

. I am still bitter my team could not finish off the Tampa Bay Lightning after having them on the ropes. I am optimistic about the forthcoming season however, we lost a few player's (Saprykin, Gauthier, Conroy, Oliwa and it looks like Turek is going back to Europe). The rest of the team is intact and I look forward to seeing Daymond Langkow and Dion Phaneuf suit up in the Flaming "C". I expect to see a lot of teams lose very key players in the forthcoming weeks due to the new CBA, free agent signings will be intense. Perhaps Toronto can start rebuilding their overpriced, overrated and very old team. I am glad hockey looks to be back.
Unfortunately, I'm not very optimistic about the Canucks winning the cup this year (or anytime in the very near future). They are a great team, and always finish first or second in their division, but when the playoffs roll around, they just crumble. One of their biggest problems is inconsitant goaltending. Cloutier is great when he's on a hot streak, but he tends to have cold streaks just as frequently. The 'Nucks really need to get themselves a Roy, or Brodeur or Belfour - someone who can be relied on, and to be a backbone for the defensive end of the team. Naslund is pretty happy in Europe, so who knows if he is coming back this year. Ever since Bertuzzi got his $8 million/year salary, he thinks he is a finesse player, and doesn't muscle his way in front of the net anymore, which lead him to be one of the leagues top pointsmen/scorers the other year. Cloutier has been given yet another chance with a one year contract. Brian Burke is no longer GM of the team.
In short, I will spend yet another year cheering my heart out for a great team that inevitabely leaves me saying "boy these guys are hard to cheer for"
