Semi-Official I'm Thread LVIII
I don't really blame the employees since this is and always has been a high level decision to understaff stores. That guy makes $18/hr (in Seattle... so struggling) and obviously knows the store like the back of his hand... but the big brains in the corporate office are more worried about competing with Amazon while ignoring their main advantage is having employees who can help. And since they're overworked/understaffed, it just creates a vicious cycle that leads to quitting. The Taco Time by my house is closed randomly 2-3 times a week because they only have 3 or 4 employees (total), if a single one is sick they can't open the store.
I'm ranting about this a bit. When I worked at Target (circa '96) one of the big things was to take a person to the area they were asking about; so if someone said "I'm looking for the holiday paper" you'd walk with them to the back of the store and show them where it was, then go back to whatever you were doing before. We had secret shoppers test people on this! Fast forward to 2021... I was at the liquor store looking for a gift for the family exchange, and a lady asked a worker dude where something was. He explained at great length and detail where it was ("fourth aisle, on the near side, about half way down, on the 2nd shelf from the bottom... yes, over that way... 4th aisle from the entrance... yes, facing this direction...") when he could have much more easily walked her there, explained the options, probably upsold her off the 2nd shelf to something worth consuming...

There’s currently an uproar here as our only Starbucks (inside the Safeway) also has to close randomly due to staffing. Combine that with 1 of the 2 Tim Hortons having burned down and not yet rebuilt I’m surprised there hasn’t been a full scale riot.
Those directions would likely be totally useless for someone with a brain injury.
