I'm telling you to move out here. You can EASILY do that here!
Aside from the fact I'd to be back on the left coast, what really grinds my gears is that we have a wealth of food producers in this county, between farmers and greenhouse growers. But when I go to most local grocery stores, I'm faced with dilemmas like: do I pay $1.99 for the cucumber from Ontario, or $0.89 for the one from the US? Especially when it's possible that the US cucumber travelled a shorter distance.

Depends on how you define local, I guess. That said, this is a conundrum when it comes to any aspect of life and doing well by the community, the environment AND your pocket book.

I'm noting that Canadian blended whisky has to come from Canada, and Tequila has to come from Mexico. . .

. . . or else the NAFTA police come after you.

I'm really struggling with this, particularly because this community has been hit very hard and I'd like to support it as much as practical. I'll do what I can.

I'm saying that seems like a plan. I like to support local when appropriate. If something is just a commodity, I don't care who I purchase it from, but if it's something that I NOTICE (good veggies, bike shops, local craftsmen, etc.), I'm all about supporting the little guy.

Mostly I spend my "support the little guy" dollars on though...
