Jed, with regards to your earlier post... I think the increase in steam may largely be due to the change in weather. A west wind would indicate cool moist air being blown towards the hill, and the heated rock of the dome would likely create steam...

Maybe. I think you have a point with the west winds and more moisture in the air. I think it also has to do with that moisture saturating the air (and the explanation above). The normal steam comes from water flowing in fissures.
