Shooting at Virginia Tech :(

Hindsight is always 20/20, but...Would you really want to go to a school with armed guards on the remote chance that some psycho's gonna shoot a bunch of people? It almost seems as though you're creating an environment of fear. I know there are high schools and whatnot that have metal detectors, etc., but I would not personally want to go to a school where people are fearful for their personal safety. It's a basic sense of security and armed guards would make me wonder what I need to be worried about since the reality is, school shootings are not an every day occurence.
And in that very same struggle to find a "perfectly safe" place for ourselves, we end up living our lives dominated by fear - which then means that we live our entire lives fearing everything, as if there was no safety at all.

What's more disheartening is that elsewhere on this board, and in the corners of the office, on the radio, and in print, everyone is acting out the same old plays.
What's new, creative, or forward-thinking about any of this?

The same old "let's find a scapegoat to blame".Remember, there was zero violence in this world until TV, Hollywood and video games came along...

Everything's gonna be OK now.
Oprah's sending a correspondent to Virginia Tech, because she can do a better job of finding out why this happened.
