No I guess I just didnt follow your point. I have a four year old laptop as well! I do not subscribe to Moores law (which by the way some feel is coming to an end rapidly) The whole computer industry has us convinced we need faster/greater/newer? What for? Planned obsolescence! I just maxed out my RAM and I am a happy camper with my pokey( yeah right) 4 year old laptop with built in wireless!
I'm in the same boat, just filled up the last RAM hole.... I can't tell with Moores law, it seems pretty steady to me. I have to say, for surfing the net and stuff, my 700 mhz laptop does the trick nicely, I even paint on it. But for 3D work, I will always need the latest and greatest.....
Well I cant believe we have gone on all day about Microsoft, Apple etc in this thread without jumping down each others throats

On that note I leave you with the last word!! Time for a
Mom, did you work for MS?
Guys, take a look at "The Cathedral and the Bazaar," if you're interested in how Linux could ever topple Windows.
I'm not saying it ever will, I just found it interesting.
I can never get religious about software. I've worked on about 15 different operating systems and probably double that number of software development environments during my 20 year software career, and they all have their quirks.
Frankly, I think Microsoft deserves both admiration and consternation, perhaps in equal amounts. The simple fact these days for anyone doing software development for home/office users is that Windows owns the desktop today. For servers, it's not quite so obvious or predictable, but my company is betting on MS...
Tallyho!

I don't think windows needs toppling, I think Linux serves as a catalyst for evolution.
The two will hump like the rabbits they are and we'll be using something really cool in the future, and that thing will be the thing we bitch about until such time as a backlash occurs... repeat, ad infinitum....
