I think macintosh is a great product and OSX is a much better os than their previous offers. Personally I really don't care, I just know how to build my own systems with very nice hardware at a much lower cost, I have only bought a pre-built PC once and I'll never do it again.

I have the unique point of view of having used Mac, PC, SGI, and Linux in a proffesional environment (3D surfacing, rendering and simulation, and some 2d paint and video work) and the Mac has been the most frustrating when dealing with large projects, that is my only beef. Windows used to be much worse, but with XP I able to have my Mac like interactive fun, and do serious work as well.... the flipside is I have a friend at a different company working on Mac and they have finally gotten everything switched to OSX and from what I've seen it's night and day. They can now handle huge volumes of Film work much easier then before. They still payed more though.

Having Apple do so well and support alternative media and things really helps the market, we all know it takes microshaft 5 times to get one thing right. WINXP is version 6 of NT, and 2000 was the only one that worked worth a damn. We are in a pretty healthy computing economy right now and I'm happy that all these technologies exist and in the near future, it won't matter what you've got because microsoft has to include Java now, and that is platform independant, and bluetooth will help everything talk to everything else..... utopia is just around the corner

I'm a miser, if I wasn't I would've skipped the s2000 and bought a viper gts. Good thing I'm a big Honda fan

christ, how's that for a rant....?

I respect them for what they are. Eliminate cost and only look at functionality. Macs are great for graphic design, but lets face it, the rest of the world runs on PCs and commonality is a HUGE thing. Sharing of info about technologies and also sharing data is easier when you are using the same platform as your counterparts.

I also don't like how the Mac is a canned product. I can't upgrade things as easily and why oh why is the monitor built in???

Just a tidbit.....our graphic design person uses a Mac here and hates it. She wants to use PCs, but all of her contacts in the graphic design world use Macs, so she is stuck.

Either way, it all comes down to preference. Most likely what you learned on as well. I remember when my hate for them first developed....the damn thing wouldn't give me back my disk and there was no manual release. I've hated them ever since.

Just trying to make the point why do some people feel its fine to pay a premium for elegant design and a better overall experience when it comes to cars, etc , but when it comes to computer hardware less is less???

I am obviously the only Apple supporter in this dark of a corner

why do you put the disc in the trash..... ???? I've wondered that for years....

I had the same experience as Luke. We always had to move stuff to Mac format for the CLIENTS, not for the creatives we always prefered the PC's only because they were faster and crashed less.... if you can believe it. That's real world experience, not just billGates luv, I promise you I pay as little as possible into their bloated bank accounts... I'm typing this in MOZILLA!!!!!!

I got a chance to work on the new Titanium notebook, the wide one running OSX, it was actually really nice. I wish I had money to throw away and I wouldn't be using this 4 year old HP.....

Yeah, I'm considering the Mac now mainly because of Mac OS X. I love that it's UNIX based now, better than that nano-kernel or pico-kernel crap of the days gone by.

As for NT, I thought NT 4.0 was pretty good. I was using it for a long time, and was quite disappointed with W2K when it first came out (though that probably has more to do with hardware support issues). I'm still using Windows 2000 at work and at home, and have no intentions to upgrade to XP. I don't think I should have to ask Microsoft for permission to add a hard drive to my computer.
I agree about that asking permission CRAP there are ways around such things. If microSHIT had their way your computer and software would be stored in Redmond and you'd have to pay 10 dollars just to long on and check your mail... bastiges, those are the things I dislike about M$, not the software, the business practices, Bill the Gates is the Hitler of computers..... which is why I spend the least amoun I can on him, and someday soon, I can just use linux or mac for everything I have now..... soon.... patience.....

Yeah...that new registering your key thing is crap. Maybe if they didn't charge so much they would have such a problem with piracy. At work we have a select agreement, so I have a CD without the key registration stuff. It's so nice! I could never do cloning if I didn't have it.

BTW - I'm typing this on Netscape 7.0.
