Peanut soup - we call it ground nut stew and it is yummy! I think the version I make is African.

When we lived in NC we had to buy some of those boiled peanuts and they are nasty. Reminded me of - say you are a a party, drunk and you don't realize till you've been eating them that someone spilled beer in the nut bowl and they are all soggy and nasty.

Fun to see your pics - I miss Carolina Beach
If you have any souther photo...please add.

I didn't have my camera yesterday but on my way home from work I saw a bumber sticker on the left side of the truck that said, "Keep honking I'm reloading" And the right side had the Dixie flag.

I haven't made Chinese style peanut soup, but it's basically whole nuts boiled in a lot of water. Along with some meat/bones (pork, usually) and maybe salt, pepper etc (etc -> MSG).

You don't have to eat the peanuts, since it's really just there to add flavor to the soup (I guess you're drinking the slime ), but most people usually do (well, at least I do). And yes, it's soft and mushy - I guess it's something you have to grow up with .

I have a ton of real pics - in albums - I'll scan some later and see how they come out. We spent 2 summers at the beach and loved it. My husband was working in historic Wilmington, it was beautiful.

Very different culture there as well as mass quantities if nasty bugs!!!!

but fun still

They seem to be on every other corner here in Florida. You can get them plain or Cajun style.

Either way

Speaking of roadside food-has anybody ever bought "fresh shrimp" from a guy selling out of the back of his pickup?

Yes I have... they're all over the place in south Louisiana. Usually it's really fresh too, most of these guys go out and shrimp all day, then park on the side of the street afterwards to sell em out of a van usually.
