I learned what Uric Scale was from you, after seeing it first hand in my partially clogged drain. Thanks for the Education.

The other day I learned how to avoid toilet problems. Rob nailed the uric scale issue and there are other substances in urine that cause deposits.

So urine and hard water creates deposits. Urine also leaches salt. Salts and scale will stick to drains and toilet trapways.

A common saying is "if it is yellow let it mellow, if it is brown flush it down" Well my wife gets up many times each evening to pee, up to five times a night. It is a physical issue she has had for a number of years. She often let it sit overnight not to create noise by flushing since our bedrooms are all around the main toilet. Fluid in a toilet sits at a certain level due to the trapway design. Once filled with water, if you add a few drops of water the toilet allows an equal amount of water to drip down the drain and rear of the toilet. If the fluid is prone to scale and salt deposits, each drop of water that drips down the toilet and drain can leave deposits behind, so as you pee in the toilet it pushes a small amount out of the drain if not flushing. That little drip / flow of fluid causes the issues. It is best to flush the toilet with each use so concentrated drops are not depositing scale and salt into the drain. The scale and salt looks almost like wet beach sand and it slowly closes the diameter of the toilet and plugging issues occur. I got mine scooped out and the remnants flushed away after cleaning the drain. Now we know, flush .

TIL to repair my stippled "popcorn" ceilings with Christmas snow in a can. Ghetto fix that works pretty decent. When we bought the house the old owners scraped the ceilings in a few spots on their way out. We also had some mice who insisted on urinating in the basement ceiling. All areas fixed today with Christmas snow, $6.00 total cost. Not bad .
