Perhaps, John. In my life, I've never heard anyone pronounce it "flak-sid." I hear you about the rule, but most grammatical rules have exceptions. It's amazing anyone can speak (or write) the language at all!

Unbelievable the Merriam's would validate "nucular." That's just wrong.
