I figured I would be a peach and reserve a thread for you guys The weather was splotchy this weekend, so hopefully it avoided you boys out there and you were able to get some honest learnin' and racin' in.
Erik, how was the first weekend in the Civic?
John, how did the new suspension treat you? Scot, how did the new car treat you?
I had a great time except for the sleeping on friday night. It was ****ING COLD sleeping in my unheated trailer with Chris. Even Spooning we were cold.
Anyway.... first time for me with my car with Tein RA's and first time ever on Toyo RA1's.... i thought I would take it easy at first, but Eff that....the first session we were running balls deep baby....."that's what she said"....
Out of 30 or so race cars (honda's, mustangs, bmw's, vw's, Subaru STI, etc...) i qualified 2nd on Sat with Chris D 4th and JFO 7th (i think). the Pole setter tried to out brake me at turn 1 in the 2nd lap and did a bunch of 360's right as I was about to turn into thim... ...hahah.......so I had the overall lead for most of the race until late with some yellow flags and lapped traffic I got passed by the K24 killa!
Sunday Chris D got Pole and i got 2nd. we were both into the 1:04.XX's..... not bad considering Toyo's are supposed to be slower than other R compound tires.... The STI was 4th (right behind me) and JFO was 7th again (i think)..... i was more concerned with that STI running into me at the start that I didn't try to beat Chris D to turn 1....... after turn 1 I battled endlessly with a cobra (3rd qualifier) which allowed Chris to check out...... i eventually looped my car at the end of the back straight at turn ?? (12??)... I finished 5th overall I think by the time I got back on .... blaaa.... if it matters to anyone, I looked at my speedo 2 times at the back and i was doing 133 right before the right kink.... so 135mph top speed on the back if my speedo is close to correct...
I rushed out of there to get my kids and home so I didn't get all of the papers, etc..... despite blowing a 300 yard lead on Chris, I had a great time. John cooked up some awesome food. EJO was there with his soon to be race car.... all was good at the BEAVER!
Chris D - K24 (****head )
Scot - 2001 w/ 2.2L (three 6 mafia - nigga)
JFO - 2001 w/ 2.0L (this car has been ridden hard and put away wet - that's what she said)
John had an invite-only VIP gathering at the Oldt Racing Pavilion? Damn, I wish I was there 7th huh, I bet it was the 17" wheels he is running John, your car is looking nice
Scot, you need some more stickers on that piece. Make up some company like 'Crackwhore Classifieds, Inc' and plaster it all over your ride. You need to rebuild your track cred mang, 2nd place is disgraceful
Glad everything came back in one piece. What's next? Summit in a month?
I don't have any pictures . A weekend racing is better than most things but that weekend might be one I'd like to forget. I still had a good time though
To start off what would have taken 5 1/2 hours to get to the track turned into a voyage of.......wait for it............... TWELVE and a HALF hours! We left at 1:30 pm Friday in order to get to the track in plenty of time for setup, dinner, final maintenance, and a movie. We didn't get there until 2:11 am Saturday and had to pay the camping fee for the privledge of sleeping in the drivers seats for four hours. I'll let Erik expand on that part since I have a feeling that if I do my head will explode. It has something to do with a Ford POS.
On track I noticed the car to be much bouncier and wondered if the track got a whole lot bumpier in the last year. I tried the softest setting on the shocks and there was too much rebound so I stiffened them up for the next round (that's what she said). That settled the car down and the car handled somewhat like I remembered it. Unfortunately I was not driving the course like I did last year and I was about 2 seconds slower. I have the GPS and it came down to not braking late enough into Turn 1 and how much speed is carried through 1-2-3-4. For some reason I didn't get over it and my time suffered.
The best part of the weekend was that NOBODY hit me (and I didn't touch anyone)!!!!!!
I ran OK races but am disappointed in myself that I didn't go as fast as I did last year. As Scot can attest to----when you are around a Factory Five or BMW GTS3 car you cannot drive your own race---you are always braking too early, defending, or trying to dive bomb in the corners, the lap times climb and you get further from the leader. I'm not sure where I finished overall I just know I was behind Chris and Scot and that isn't where I want to be.
We had a good time Saturday night after the race and award "ceremony"----it didn't have trophy girls so it wasn't a real ceremony. We showered up, put on some smell good, and looked for the "ladies"--------------there were no ladies-----this was a sausage party. It was still an OK party and Scot "gave it up" without too much screaming I can say that because he knows I am joking. We watched the Pam video---not THAT one--the Comedy Central Roast uncensored, had free beer, and I cooked steak kabobs.
