Michele is doing well and getting a little stronger everyday. We are still staying at my parents home which is a drag but they are taking excellent care of her. Our home is just a little too big for her to maneuver around in. We have a stairs leading to the bedrooms and steps to the family room so getting around would be difficult at this time, plus she gets great food at my parents home. Here is a pic of Michele and Kristen the day before she went back to California. This pic was taken last weekend.
I just spent a 1/2 an hour reading this thread and all I can say is wow! This is an amazing and inspiring story. I am glad to hear that your wife and her cousin are doing better. I hope all goes well and that both of them make full recoveries.
Well after 45 days since her surgery Michele is home. We are spending the weekend at our home to do some things around the house and for Michele to get a change of scenery. She will be going back to my parents home on Sunday afternoon to continue her Physical therapy during the week and to put on a few more pounds.
Michele is getting stronger everyday and it is amazing to she how well she is doing. She has been sick for so many years it's amazing she doesn't have all the problems now that were caused by her liver failure. She is still weak and requires some help getting out of a low seated position but other than that she is doing great. Her appetite is excellent and she gained 6lbs since at my parents home(OK well she is still only 93lbs now and standing 5'9'' but I can see her start to fill out.
I plan on going to the meet in New Hope this Sunday... this will be the first time I have driven my car in over 2 months! I am looking forward to it although I will only go to the meeting place and bullcrap for a hour or so but things are starting to get back to normal.
We are hoping that a couple more weeks of Physical therapy and she will be strong enough to come home for good and be able to drive herself to therapy.
So that's it she has a follow up visit with the surgeons on Tuesday and we expect they will remove her last drain in her side and the butterfly stitches they put on place after removing the staples from her surgery.
Please congratulae Michele on her accomplishment since the surgery. This is terrific news of her drains being removed; you must be so relieved. Life returns to normal. Almost time for a well deserved vacation for both of you. You both are still in my prayers.
Well things were going great for Michele. Her physical rehab is going along nicely and she has gained back some strength. She also gained 12 lbs now and is approaching a 100lbs.
But...... today at her regular check up the Doc's decided to remove her last drain in her side. This drain has been giving her a prob b/c it was clogged and leaking out of her side and not into the pouch. This was a inconvenience more than a problem.
All was going well when she returned from her check up then at about 3 pm she began to have a great amount of pain in her stomach and sides, kind of like a pressure and cramping but to a level I have never seen before she was doubled over and could hardly speak she was in so much pain. We called the hospital and they said to put a hot compress on it and call back if it did not go away. Well by 5 pm she could no longer stand it and she began to have a temp of a 101. We called back and they told us to get her to the hospital right away. They think it may be a bile duct leak which would require a surgery to correct. We are hoping this is not the case and further testing tomorrow will give us the complete picture. She had some blood cultures taken tonight and a chest x-ray.
They have taken the edge off her pain with some morphine but she still feels a pressure kind of like someone stepping on your stomach. So we are back in the hospital for now.
So keep praying and hoping that we get good news and it is not a bile duct leak or bad infection, just perhaps some muscle spasms caused by the drain being pulled out after being in so long.
Hope this turns out to be something less drastic than your fears, and that further surgery for Michele isn't necessary, charlie You know about 500 ppl will be sayin' a prayer and waiting for your news! Keep the faith... it's hard sometimes.
Good news Michele's tests today came back negative Her fever has subsided and she is felling better, just a bit sore. We hope she will be coming home tommorow after they keep an eye on her overnight. Her blood tests came back excellent as well. We assume it was just a reaction to removing the drain and this will be behind us so she can continue to get stronger.
The transplant team had an emergency and were not able to come in and speak to us personaly tonight so the resident on call relayed the good news. We are just guessing as to what caused this situation. They will be in tommorow to give her an explanation or not sometimes they just shrug their shoulders and say "I dunno".
Anyway I will get back to all tommorow kinda tired now.
