Default Help bedding My new Carbotechs

I've got a shiny new set of XP8 pads from Carbotech for my S waiting to be installed for an HPDE day comming up on Oct 1-2. I know they must be bedded to the rotors, but...

How/where are you guys bedding your pads to your rotors? I'm planning on keeping them on my OEM rotors for now. If I have a problem, I'll get a dedicated track OEM set later.

Thanks!

Andrew

Instructions should come with the pads, so use them. If you are installing them at the track (recommended), then bed them in on some back road up there. If you are installing them before you go, install them the night before.

yea, I've got the instructions. not in front of me, but basically a bunch of stops from 80-20. I want to follow them, but the problem is where is there a spot on the open roads around philly to allow me to follow the instructions. I"m tempted to go out at 2AM one night on 95, but other than that, I can't think of a place to bed them properly (and still safely).

I was going to install them next weekend and maybe DD them for a week before the event. Good/bad idea?

Columbus Blvd or 95 are fine spots to bed them in. I would not install them that far in advance of the event. From what I have experienced, wear is accelerated on the street. These pads want to be hot, if you run them cold they may start to chunk on you. You will probably be fine, it just is not preferred.

Are you coming to FC or what?

I would love to, but I'm stuck going to a business trip to NY

Damm tradeshow season getting in the way with my play time.

I'll try and put off putting the pads on as long as possible. My uncle had them on his car and they squeeled like crazy so I figured they weren't too good for DD, but my normal commute is mostly highway and I almost nver brake anyway... only time is when I"m stopping for lights around city hall, but I don't mind waking the bums up in the morning with that

I really hope the brakes hold up this time. If they do I"ll probably burn through the rest of my street tires which will mean its time to upgrade the wheels next

As long as my car survives, I"ll try and make it out to at least two PDA or FATT days before the season is over (open to other groups too, just found them and they seem to have a lot of events around us).

Hopefully I"ll see you out at a track at least once this season

The XP8's will easily stand up to whatever you can throw at them on street tires. You'll have those things ABS-ing often. R-comps on the other hand eat through them like a fat kid and cake

In addition to FC, the Philly PCA has a November event at Summit Main that I may try and get to

is that schattenbaum PCA? I don't see it on their website. I have two tradeshows in nov. hopefully they won't conflict.

Its been too long since I"ve been too long since I"ve been out, I find myself daydreaming going over the proper lines.

Is there a good local place to get rims/R-compounds or just go w/ tirerack? I would like to get lighter rims, but if they are going to be for HPDE days, its more important that they be cheap/durable.

Riesentoter PCA is the Philly Region. www.rtr-pca.org IIRC.

Daydreaming about track days is completely normal

There are lots of places to get the R-comps you are looking for depending on what tires you are looking to get.

We should meet up and talk track sometime
