Thanks for the input, my beater was stolen a month ago, so the plan now is Dunlop Winter Sport M3 in the AP1 size ( they will fit MY06 right?) The narrower size and extra sidewall should help in the slop

 

agreed. Despite me planning on buying snow tires and running my AP1, i still hope to buy a beater.

My friend has an older cherokee that needs some TLC, but has a ton of suspension work on it. It would be the ultimate winter beater, and Im pretty sure he wants it out of his garage.

 

NO, the AP1 wheels are 16" the AP2 wheels are 17s. That said, I am not sure what the wheel width of the AP2s either, but you can probably run 205s on the front and 225s on the rear (AP1 stock sizes) on you 17s.

 

I have the dunlop wintersport M3's mounted on my ap2 rims. I drove it all winter without a hitch. The car handles just fine in the snow with these winter tires. If I were you I would just buy winter tires and mount them on your stock rims and then over the winter buy a nice set of rims and put your bridgestones on them. As for the size tires I'm running I'm not 100% sure but I think I have 225/45 up front and 255/50 in the rear 17's of course. I'll check tomorrow for you if you want.

 

Sorry, I meant to ask if the AP1 wheels, would fit an AP2 (was going to see if I could find some f/s), Wasnt 100% sure if the offsets were the same?

 

That would be ideal, good idea, but the only thing is I dont think I would be able to put out the money for rims well into next summer. They are on my list but, I was thinking of some other mods first. Are the sizes that you listed for the M3's on your AP2 rims? If so, I was wondering why you went with wider withs, I always thought in winter, the narrower the better as far as frozen/slushy crap? I was thinking a set of Ap1's with the dunlap M3's in the the OEM sizes would be ideal for the winter? Am I off?

 

Yeah, the AP1 wheels will fit just fine. That's my winter setup - AP1 wheels with Dunlop Winter Sport M3s.

I guess it's almost time to switch over to the winter tires. I think I'll give the summer tires another two weeks and then switch.

 

How are the winter sport m3's in snow?

 

They were great last year. I was only out in snow a couple of times. The first was hardpacked stuff left after the plows went by, and it was no problem at all.

The second time was an early-morning snowstorm, and I had no trouble staying with traffic at about 50-60mph. I could see a couple of huge rooster tails flying back behind the car, so I guess the tires were doing their job.

 

Sounds good, were you able to get them in the correct size to fit the ap1 wheels? i.e. 205/55/16 and 245/45/16? Or did you have to run 225 in the back?
