NJMP info and help
Hey guys
My name is Rob! I use to live in Philly and the a few other locations in South Jersey but I moved out to California well before the NJMP was open so I never got a chance to drive it. I also didn't learn about the S2000 till I had moved out here. There is a possibility that we may know each other though
Due to the crazy job market in CA....it looks like I might be moving back home soon! I'm really excited to drive the new track
What is the best organization or clubs to run with?
How often are there events?
Whats the general price range for a day of TT or HPDE?
What are some other good tracks that are with in driving range?
I like to do one to two events per month...is there a schedule amongst multiple clubs so that you can get out more often. I found one event organizer but they only had 2 events at NJMP for the entire season. If that's the case I'd be a deal breaker....i need more track time than that and WG is just too far way to do often....Pocono looks like turd and I'm not in the least bit even interested in going there.
Anyways, thanks for all the help and suggestions.

For whatever reason, it costs more to track here than in Cali. Expect to pay atleast $200/day.
The best tracks within driving range will be Watkins Glen & VIR.

Yeah I actually did notice that the tracks as expensive. That's nothing new though. Our "small" tracks are owned by the SCCA cheaper which make them affordable but they are not always very nice. Go to Laguna Seca and you can expect to pay something like $400 beans for the day.
One quick question...
In you opinion which track is better...VIR or NJMP?

There are plenty of great, affordable tracking opportunities around Philly:
NJMP has Thunderbolt and Lightning Circuits and Summit Point has the Main and Shenandoah Circuits. You could easily fill a season going to these 4 tracks and not feel bored.
VIR is great, but it is an easy 7-8 hour trip down there. I have never been to Watkins Glen, but of course have heard great things (this will be one of the more expensive tracks to run out here). Calabogie up in Canada is a great track ~9 hours away. Lime Rock in CT I have heard mixed reviews on and is a little further than Watkins Glen. I have also heard good things about BeaveRun out closer to Pittsburgh, but again you are looking at ~5 hours.
"VIR vs NJMP" - Thunderbolt > VIR Full > Lightning. VIR also runs North and South course configs as well as a Grand course. I can expand on my preferences more, but NJMP is a gem of a facility in our backyard.
I have run with many different organizations: NASA, MazdaDrivers, SVT Club, and local PCA chapters and have had good experiences with all of them. If you are looking to instruct or compete then NASA is the way to go (most of their events will run you ~$200/day). If you are just looking for track time, I would recommend the local PCA chapters. They run tons of events, they are S2000 friendly, they are great people and fast drivers, they run smooth events with minimal down time, and they are very affordable (many events are ~$150 or less per day).
Where would you be living in the Philly area if you come back?

Thanks!
I was very curious how people would rate thunderbolt in comparison to VIR. I thought for sure that you'd say VIR was the best.
I'm not sure where I'd move to.
I love Philly and I use to live in Fishtown before its popularity grew. And before that a few place in, Moorestown Maple Shade, and Medford. I'd like to just find a nice place in south jersey to live as long as I don't have to use RT 38 and RT 73. I always hated those roads.
The bad news is that I did talk to the guys about the job and even though its based out of Burlington NJ all of the work is up north. Apparently they want me to manage a 3rd party operation for the entire states of NY, CT,& MA and possibly more in the future. It 80% travel with about 3 nights in hotels a week. They think it would be best if I place myself in that general area....probably Orange NY or something like that.
That kinda is a killer in my opinion. I'd like to stay close to the track and that much travel just seams almost impossible.

I've only run NJMP and Pocono North. The Pocono trip is great when we do the DelVal Miata Club track day there because there's usually about a dozen s2ki people there which makes it a really fun day. Looking at just the tracking aspect of it though, it's not much really.
NJMP is definitely
Both tracks are pretty fast, and you can't beat pavement that's only a year old.
With an HPDE school like SCDA or PDA you're looking in the $275-$300 area per day.
I'd like to try some of the other tracks in the region someday, Watkins Glen, VIR, & Summit Point, but for the time being I'm pretty happy with NJMP and I'd be even happier if I got more days at Thunderbolt since everything seems pretty Lightning-biased. Plus all of those other tracks I just listed are several hours away, NJMP is practically in my back yard (just an hour away through back roads).
