Default PA and Radar.....

Spoke to a buddy of mine recently. He's a cop in a local area and was asking him about what kinds of radar used by the PA police...

Apparently, local police don't use Radar... Only the State Police use Radar... The Locals use Vascar... which explains why my radar detector almost never goes off in PA....

In Jersey, it's definately paid for itself already....

Just figured I'd give you guys the heads up...

very true, but it doesn't help me justify me buying it to my wife.... Until we drive into Jersey that is....

I swear that entire state is blanket monitored by radar... Revenue seeking leeches..

That's why I bought the Uniden GPSRD radar detector. It's not the greatest radar detector in the world, but its GPS features easily outweigh its lack of radar sensitivity.

If you live in PA, it's silly to spend big bucks on a radar detector.

I beg to differ with the ancient Shark, but my V-1 has saved my butt a number of times of the PA turnpike (which I drive a lot in the summer ). What band are they using? I also got a ticket on Route 30 about 5 years ago, right in the middle of Wayne, PA on the Main Line; copz were pulling drivers over like a taffy pull. What were they using? What IS vascar

Vascar is a method of determining speed from distance over time.....

The po po establish markers in the road at a known distance.... then time you through that distance.... and calculating how long it took you to get through it come up with a speed....

It's not something a "detector" can "detect"......

Usually it's lines in the road, or those white reflective markers on the side of the road.....

Right, most of the time you'll see the VASCAR lines on the road. They're white lines, spaced apart a hundred feet, give or take. Easy to spot if you're looking. The police also usually place an orange cone on one line, right on the side of the road, to better enable them to know when to start timing. So keep an eye out for the orange cone as well.
