Default where to get Amsoil oil?

Hey guys, im changing my oil soon and the previous owner used M1. i like mobil 1 overall but not for this car. i have an AP1. i don't drive the car often and when i do i usually hit vtec. I notice that the oil goes down a little bit. I was fully aware of this when i got the car. but now i want to switch to Amsoil after hearing how good it is. but here is the question. Where do you get it other than internet? is there any shops in the philly/ nj/ del area that carry it. currently i am in DelCo so anywhere around there would be a plus.

I buy ut directly from Amsoil web site.

Also, there is a dealer list on their web site, you can try to look there.

dont expect too much, i put amsoil in my 01 AP1 and it ate a lot of it as well. i run mobil1 0w-30 and it seems about the same. but thats just me and i can't speak for everyone. they are both decent oils.

really, so maybe i will just use mobil 1. if amsoil still burns the same. i don't have a problem checking the oil everyonce in a while and adding more. but a case of amsoil (12-quart containers) is over 100$. i looked at the dealer list as well, but when i put the info in google maps, it was someones house. it would look funny rolling up to someones house and ringing there bell and asking for oil. i really plan on only running my car in the summer so i think the 0w-30 might be a little much.

yeah i mean im not an expert. the amsoil was the first time synthetic was used in my car so i expected it to eat it a little. i would have kept running the amsoil, but when you need to put a quart in it when it gets low, its a bitch to find a dealer and i dont feel like waiting to get it in the mail. thats the only reason i switched. at any rate since the first oil change to mobil1 it seems to have evened out and doesnt use nearly as much.

I run Amsoil 10W-40 in my AP1 '01. 60K uneventful miles. But I also get some consumption, which is an issue with early AP1's as far as I know. 10W-40m is my AP1 S2000 factory spec for warm weather but any Amsoil is good for around -40F or lower so no viscosity issues even in NJ winters.

I get around 2000-3000 miles per quart, but I suspect I converted to Amsoil too early, around 9000 miles and the engine never got fully broken in.

Note: If you V-Tec then the consumption will go up even with synthetic.

If you want to go the full route, you can get 1 year on both the Amsoil oil(you will likely have to add some oil during the year) and the newest Amsoil filter.
If you buy an Amsoil EaO (-20 for the S2000) filter it is good for 1 year or 25,000 miles, unless you have severe service - the Amsoil site has the oil change recommendations. Go to the site and search for publication G1490. It also talks about caveats as far as some vehicles go(some get severe sludge etc so read the whole publication).

You should inspect if you do not have a some sludge if you go straight from petro oil use. I am not sure how to do that in the S. Maybe look down the filler hole or inspect the drain plug. Amsoil is such a good detergent it will clean the sludge and deposit it in the filter. I suspect you have taken care of the oil previously so it should not be a problem. However if previous use is many short trips and few long hot runs it may be worth looking into. Sludge was more prevalent in older cars but not so much recently due to faster warm up for emissions, I suspect.

Plus you don't have to worry too much about having to add some good petro oil if you run out of Amsoil. Amsoil is smart enough not to make an incompatible oil to petro but you will have to reduce the extended drain accordingly.

Anyone care to comment?

I bought this car in the beginning of the summer. its an 02 and it had around 18.5Kmiles. now it has around 21K. The previous owner took immaculate car of the car. he gave me a bunch of extra filters and about 2 quarts of M1 oil . i have used 1.5 quarts of the oil since getting the car. the previous owner says that he rarely got it to vtec.. i think i drive it a little more spirited than he did. occasionally hitting vtec. i just want a oil that wont burn as much. Also, in addition to getting the Amsoil im going to pull the PCV valve and clean it out and if that dosn't work ill probably get krankvents and possibly an oil catch can, but that would be last on the list. my car isn't FI or anything.

plus the car is gonna sit for the winter in storage.
