1988 anime par excellence. If you like Anime then you will know of this film. It is scifi, it is a ,metaphor for the bomb, it is awsome and has never been even remotely copied. The story surrounds two friends in a near future in Tokyo , their adventures, a clandestine government project, and what happens next. It becomes really bizzare after a while. The animation still holds up well, I enjoyed the dubbed version. I give it a 10 out of 10.

 

I remember seeing this at the local theatre when it was first released in North America. I was big into the Robotech series and then this came out and blew me away.

The stupid movie called Lucy (live action crap) copied much of Akira's look and feel. Akira is the best of the genre.
