Birdman
Just watched Birdman. After all the Oscar buzz, my wife and I decided, "ok, let's rent it and see what all is all with this one."
This one is deep. On the surface its about actors being all hung up on their "craft"- like acting is so hard- they're not saving the world or really doing anything useful like astronauts or medical doctors, or hell, even the people who pick up your recycling.
On a deeper level, its about finding meaning to what one does. It just so happens that the characters are actors, playing actors. make sense?
All the primary actors do an really incredible job of...acting. no really, it is well done. It is tough to figure what its all about until the end- although the end game does slowly develop through out. Lots of symbolism through out. Don't expect big hollywood car chases and mindless dialogue about getting the bad guys. You will not like this movie if you can't sit still without hearing loud over boosted bass and seeing carnage and destruction. Birdman does not serve everything to you in an easy to digest way. Its a thinking movie. I'll bet that this is required watching for students in movie school. This movie is also for those who like to talk about the movie and analyze what it means over a cup of chai latte.
Was it the best movie I saw ever- would I buy it to watch again and again? Did it deserve the Oscar? Um, no to both questions. But it was watchable and as I said, deep.
I give it a 7.5/10 and a 2/10. the higher score is for those enthusiasts that know what they're getting into. If you had no idea that some movies are meant to make you think, then don't see it. If you're willing to let a movie take you somewhere that's far away, then give it a try.

Yeah this movie isn't for everyone, it's different....in a good/bad way. The way it was shot is cool but ehh I'm not cinaphile enough to love what made this movie special. Worth a watch, but I probably won't watch it again.
