I saw the Clooney version only, but I really liked it. I thought it was deep. Would you choose to stay with this lost loved one even if it was not real rather than to leave the station and live a "real" life was kind of a thought provoking plot. How each person dealt with it differently, suicide, fear, acceptance. There were a lot of people who did not like the movie, and I don't get that, I thought it was great. But a lot of people just have things go over their heads or don't want to put any thought into a movie. Those people don't get Children of Men, or wanted a bloody shootout at the end of No Country for Old Men. If you are not willing to put thought into some of these things and let your mind explore the subject, you will miss some of the best things on film and be stuck watching Transformers 3 for entertainment. Nothing wrong with a special effects escapist explosion fest, but there is so much more to movies. My coworker hated No Country, but also has Paul Blart:Mall Cop at the top of his Netflicks list.

The Tarkovsky version has been on IFC a few times but I always came in in the middle and have not seen it fully.

As far as Rockwell goes SPOILER WARNING

He essentially has to play two distinct characters. The beaten down lonely one who is getting sick and just reaching out for anything, and the one who wakes up in the situation knowing he is disposable appliance to be used and thrown away, and in essence seeing what will become of him in the other character. And all this has to be done acting alone because they have to lay the two indiviual shots over each other so they can share the screen. And I thought he did it convincingly.

Its not exactly Ledger as the Joker, but I still think its worth of at least some recognition for a job well done. Its rare today to come out of a movie and think "So and so was really good in that role" and I thought that after leaving this movie. I only get that feeling about an actor/actress about 5 times a year tops. The movie telegraphs exactly what is happening with the whole clone thing, so there will be no surprises here, but I still enjoyed it and most of it was just watching Rockell's two characters.

If you can duke it out through the Tarkovsky version, you'll enjoy it. . .

. . . yeah, I get what you're saying with Rockwell; and I understand the mechanics of the shots well enough; I just think there was a need for sublimity from "both" characters. . .

I finally got to see this a few days ago. I think it was about 90% of the way to being really great, but even so I enjoyed it. Rockwell did an awesome job

Hopefully I'm not alone, but I think Gerty is one of the best movie robots/AI I've seen.

I saw the trailer and then purposefully avoided all things that may have had spoilers until I could see it. I finally saw it tonight and I really liked it. I thought Rockwell did an amazing job.

I was pleased with it. I dont think it was quite as epic as I had hoped, but it was still satisfying.

Just saw it tonight, and ooooh, excellent sci-fi movie in the old, classic, literary sense. Big thumbs up from this book-reader.
