The Thing
2011, this is a film that did not cry out to be made, but someone got the idea to do it...so
Originally shot in 1951 with James Arness as the Thing, this was a great story, fresh, with dialogue well written and characters well fleshed out. The special effects were so...so...by today's standards, but the film holds up well in my opinion. The movie is full of bit part actors that shine, witt besel, george fenemen, kenneth toby, and the guy with the perfect naration voice of the day. The message was clear, now that the Atomic age was upon us, watch the skies!!!!
Flash to 1982, John Carpenter did the remake, well done, but not anyting we have not seen....wilfred brimley and snake pliskin star. in it's day it was a marvel of gory special effects and a well done remake.
Now, we have a prequel, takes place not far from the original site, includes references to the 1982 movie which include the ending shots and some of the music, timeline is before all the remake begins. Not much of a story that you can't predict and well done special effects. It stars a bunch of Norwegians and Canadians who may well are supposed to be Americans. All the money was spent on special effects.
I give this a 5 outta 10 for the recreation of true tension on screen and pretty well done special effects. Acting, story, and direction are just B movie quality.
I truely like this story, loved the original and it is one of my favorite films. The remake was pretty good, this one, if you miss it, you have not missed much.

The original (50's movie) was crap.
John Carpenter's vision haunts me to this day.
The 3rd one is NOT a remake - it is a part 2 (pre-thing) just a continuation of the idea (Carpenter's) is enough for me to never want to see it. F the actors
