I have been on the board for over 4 years now and this was my first Dragon - im 99% sure I wouldnt have gotten an invitation to the event if thats the way it was organized.

In all seriousness, part of what makes the events great is the chance to meet new people and for n00bs to enjoy the roads us old timers have been experiencing.
Some of you really need to back off about trying to control who comes to the Dragon. It is a public road, and as a local to the East TN region I find the fact that anyone from this club would try to control access to it HIGHLY offensive. If someone wants to come down on the same weekend and hang out a little bit on the Dragon, you have NO RIGHT to try to stop them.
Last year I ended up going to the Dragon the same weekend as the DBR. I didn't even realize until 5 minutes before I left that it was the same weekend. I just happened to decide to go down and camp out for a night that and drive that weekend. While there, I did not attempt to crash any of the event dinners or group activities, and I don't condone doing so. However, I DID meet lots of great people and have a great time driving on the Dragon with them.
And, because I had such a great time, this time around I ended up planning way in advance and registering for the event. I even spent pretty much the whole event with three great guys that I met at the DBR which I was not registered for. So quit that talk about restricting access and discouraging people who are not registered from even coming to the region. We should encourage people to come down and hang out, even if they aren't registered, just to see what this great community is about.

First-I agree, 129 is a PUBLIC road, as are all the other roads in & around the Dragon. You CAN'T stop a non-registered person from driving on those roads.
HOWEVER, you can prevent that person from going to the dinner, the group pictures & other events, as to which S2KI members PAID for the right to attend.
There is a group drive coming up in the Cincy area in 6 weeks or so. I am planning on attending that group drive.
If Gray (whatever his screen name is) is out of jail at that time-and is going to participate in that drive, I will not attend. My feelings are that he is a danger to myself & my +1 and to other people on that drive--and I really don't want to associate myself with him.
My opinions-and thats all they are.
Clarification...I didn't mean to imply by "hang out" that unregistered people should be able to come to the dinner or anything else that costs the club money, just that they should be able to join us for the driving portions on public roads and the socializing on the side of the road.

I cannot believe this thread is still going. Here are a couple of quick points for people to consider from up in their ivory towers:
1.) To all that want to banish those that drive fast from this event......think about the 80% of the cars you hear tearing away from the hotel or Deal's Gap at full throttle looking to take the hill at great speed.....are YOU going to tell all of those people to go home?? Good luck with that...let me know how it goes. Anyone that tells you they drove 8 hours one way to drive 20 mph up and hill and back down again and get motion sickness is lying. Sure...there are a handful of people in no hurry to get anywhere, but the large majority of people that attend are looking to drive quickly and have a good time with their car, albeit a safe one and within their own personal limits.
2.) To those that think that organizing an event of this size and somehow being able to make 'character judgements' on who to exclude is reasonable....no way in heck. Anyone who has tried to organize a big event knows it is a huge pain in the a$$ and trying to filter out a weed from 175 people is dreaming. That Raul can pull off getting us all in one place is a miracle and takes huge patience on his part. We are all grown ups....we should not be expected to babysit each others driving. If sh*t happens and you caused it....BUH-BYE!! Have a nice day, you are going home.
I know that may have all come off harsh, but I have grown tired of reading threads like this where people all talk big behind their computers and pretend they never do anything wrong. Do I speed?? Hell yes!! Did I drive faster than the posted limit while I was there? You bet! Was a lot of the reason I went to the event to enjoy the potential of a wonderful car like the S2000 on roads we do not have around here at speed? YEP!! This guy did stupid stuff and got caught...period. Okay...he did some REALLY stupid stuff and got caught. It happens. Everyone makes a mistake, some just bigger and dumber than others. Everyone who has never made a mistake in their life and feels they can judge this guy go ahead and form a line...this should not take long.

A tradgedy occured. A tradgedy that stemmed from behaviour that is not congruent with most members, as i know it, of this forum. Certainly we drive above the posted speed limit, certainly we take calculated risks when driving spiritedly, but the sequence of bad descisions made by this individual is hardly comprable to breaking a speeding law or two.
It is a blessing that nobody died. It could have been tragic, and as much as i wish that this whole mess would just go away, I feel that maybe some of our members who live on blind invincibility may glean some kind of lesson from this.
We are not impressed by stupid kids running amuck in fast cars endangering innocent people's lives. We are not impressed when you run from the law. We are not impressed when you have a suspended driver's liscense and you choose to race another car. We are not impressed with your decisions.
This guy could be a perfectly nice, intellegent young man. But he made a terrible choices, one compounding the next. I hope that he has found that he made grave errors and learns from them. I do feel safer that he is off the road, and I feel that he should be held responsable for his actions. If that means never being a member of this organization, or never driving again, i support that.
The last thing i want is for our members to think that we approve or turn a blind eye to this kind of behavior. We do not condone it, and we find it offensive. Don't do it.
