This statement is for future reference:

Well as I'm reading this thread it makes me kinda paranoid that I might ACCIDENTALLY while trying to keep up with traffic and trying not to slow others down, cross the double yellow line. I have never been to the dragon but love driving in the mountains and I do know how to drive. However if I do cross the double yellowline IT WILL NOT BE INTENTIONAL! So please don't label me an asshat.

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to cross the yellow lines.

It is better to slow down and allow someone to pass you (by you moving out of the way) if someone is on your butt. If you're just trying to keep up with another car, slow down - your pride is not worth crossing those lines.

Before I went to the Dragon I read all the warnings about those yellow lines and thought it was kind of silly to hear all these people being yellow line nazis, but all it took was about a mile in on my first run to see what these motorcycles do to turn me into a yellow line nazi too.

BearNVa - you should join the Mid-A caravan down - we'll be leaving a day or two before the event and will have time to hit the Dragon before the weekend. If you want, you can ride with me before doing your first run.

There's also a huge difference between touching the line on exit and driving your entire car into the other lane on exit. Not saying the former should be considered okay, but keep in mind the people we're really riding are the ones driving clear into the oncoming lane. NOT COOL.

Easiest way to get around is pretend the yellow line is a cement wall. You wouldn't run into a cement wall just to go 1 mph faster through the turn, would you?

Thanks Poindexter! When are you guys gonna leave to go down? I've got that Friday off.

I doubt I'll cross or even touch the yellow lines.. I was just saying that if it happens it would be by accident besides I think of it as if you cross the lines you get popped with wreckless driving and my insurance is already $2000 for 6 months so it doesn't need to get any higher.

Yes, if an LEO sees you cross the double yellow, it's reckless driving.

I know exactly how you feel! I was at WTD now for two years. The first year I was on the Dragon a total of two times - Once on the parade into Deals Gap and once driving out at the end of the day. I know that doesn't sound like much, but the Dragon is like no other road in the US I have ever been on!

This year I made a couple of runs, testing my limited abilites. When I arrived at WTD06, I stopped at the beginning of the Dragon where a collection of cars, (I believe from Florida) were gathered. I mounted my video camera and made my first run, following this group -(I didn't want to hold them up, and I wanted to be safe). I was real pleased to see Killboy set up when I rounded a corner. I knew he would get some good pics of me on the Dragon.

Ok, fast forward a month of so. Killboy posted his pics, and I had video too! I was absolutely sure I never crossed the double yellows, but there it was in living color - my front tire ON THE YELLOW!
thats not something you want to do - the strips on the road have less traction, and it's just plain stupid. Especially for someone who grew up in the mountains and learned these lessons a long time ago.

My point in exposing myself to all kinds of flaming remarks is this-
1. We preach repeatedly - Don't cross the double yellows! On the Dragon it is a proven killer!
2. Even if you think you were safe - it's too easy to get carried away - so as your driving - repeat the golden (yellow) rule "I will not cross the double line".
3. Even if you learned to drive on the worst of twisties - The Dragon is not like any other road!so as your driving - repeat the golden (yellow) rule "I will not cross the double line".
4. Finally, definitively - I say this as someone who is happy to just be breathing - It's no fun to headon someone who is driving on the wrong side of the road. I have been there! If you can't think of yourself, think of them, and repeat the golden (yellow) rule "I will not cross the double line".

Does anybody know how much Killboy charges to destroy the evidence? Oh, and by the way, I will not be at the Dragonball, so you can relax a little
Drive safe, and enjoy the road and if you see someone cross the line, say something to them. And if someone says something to you, shake his hand an thank him. He's trying to be your friend. (And if you don't get it, then you truely are an A$$hat)!

Watch the Mid-A forum as DBR gets closer and we'll start arranging caravans. I know there are quite a few people who are planning to leave Friday morning......not me......I plan to be on the Dragon Friday Morning
