At the same time though, more than likely I'll pick up the body, fish eye lense, regular lense, and call it a day. The camera will probably never leave automatic settings, so I don't need anything with a real fancy mumbo jumbo and excellent manual settings.

Trying to think of what would be best.
I wouldn't get an SLR (with replaceable lenses) it's too pricey for what you want to do with it.

Check out the reviews of the some the "prosumer" fixed lens cameras here:

XTi is a 10 megapixel update to the 8 megapixel XT. It has a few other small feature upgrades.

The entry D-SLRs will probably be overkill for you, but you'll need them for the fisheye. The Nikon D40 or Canon Digital Rebel XTi would be your choices; both are in the $600 range.

Note that a good fisheye lens will run you several thousand dollars.
They do make conversion lenses that can attach to the fixed lens of SOME cameras. It's not the same as a "fish eye" per-se, but the effect is similar.

Eh, I think that I'd like to get into a basic SLR, just incase I do decide to do some upgrading down the line... ya know?

So, with basic needs and wants maybe the Digital Rebel XT might be better?

I would agree, except for the inability to swap lenses.

The XT will suffice for what you want to do with it.

My primary use for the camera would be just for fun. My girlfriend and I do go out of town pretty often, so I'd like to have something that I can take some decent pictures with for memories. Plus the occasional car trips and such.
