Dear Ron,
What happened? I never received a reply to the one question that has been bugging me since my dad posed it to me back when I was majoring in Math at S.U.N.Y. Brockport. For forty long years this question has vexed me as it requires knowledge and mathematical skills way beyond mine. (I majored in Math right up until I received a final grade in Intro to Calc that was less than satisfactory. My second semester I majored in Poli-Sci with a minor in beer.)
Help me, Obi-Ron...You're my only hope.

Now, if you're doing it for credit or to please Dad, the equation looks like this:

Since that makes my head hurt and I tend to be more practically oriented, I would do the following:
- Obtain container big enough to hold dowel
- Fill to the absolute brim with water
- Weigh filled container or, alternately put filled container in pan to capture water overflow
- Submerge the undrilled two inch dowel
- Remove the dowel and either weigh the container again to calculate the volume of missing water using its known density or directly measure the water overflow
- Drill the dowel
- Refill the container of water to the brim
- Submerge drilled dowel and obtain volume as before
- Subtract from your first result to find the volume of the drilled whole which is the same as the volume of the plug neglecting the centering hole
- Clean up your mess
- Have a beer
But that's just me.
Dear Ron:
Can you provide me (really all of us!) a list of 10 things we can all work on over the winter to occupy our time?
We need something to fill our cold.... wet.... dreary.... (did I mention cold?) days!
Signed,
Hoping for an early spring in Cincy!

I hear sending Raul money works well to get over those cold, wet, dreary days...

Thanks Raul.... We knew we could count on you!

OK... I'll give that one a shot and see if it works!
Thanks Raul.... We knew we could count on you!

But it hasn't helped!
Dear Ron:
Since you have been nice enough to help a lot of us out with your knowledge and wisdom...
Wanted to say...
Happy Thanksgiving to you (and Sheila)!

It's been a blast.
Answers are on hiatus until I recover from this turkey coma.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Wanted to know if you approve of my way of getting over the "turkey coma"....
Take a heated curling iron.... and put it in your armpit!
This will wake you up quickly, and get rid of all "turkey coma" symptoms!
