I know this is Ron's thread but based on more than a month of absence I figured maybe he finally decided to return to his place of origin or to the nearest parallel dimension. (I'm gonna miss him!)

PS for triman...I am hoping that this little bit of virtual interaction will place me on the short list when you are sharing some of your more interesting tequilas at future dragon events.

I don't' want to lose my thread so I'll stop in long enough to say I'm currently in San Francisco on a research fellowship so updates, while possible, will be sporadic.

Eventually, normal service will resume.

I accept your prior but it seems your posterior (get your mind out of the gutter) seems problematic based on readily falsifiable evidence.

Can you tell I'm surrounded by Bayesians?

To say that my existance is meaningless because it must ultimately end in death without any hope of an afterlife is to deny the magnificence of my very being. I am made of star stuff. Every atom in my body was forged in the fires of the stars. I am a portal through which the universe observes itself. If my existance is meaningless then the existance of the universe itself is meaningless. My personal philosophy will not allow any universe that includes objects like the gas pillars of Nebula M16 or the Ferrari 599 GTO to be considered meaningless.
I don't think life and the universe are useless by any means, but the idea that it, and we, are here "just for the hell of it" makes me smile. Oh, and colors don't exist.

Dear Ron:

Being simple minded, I always had problems trying to understand what the heck you were talking about....

Is it going to get worse now?

Signed,

This year Sandy will join me at the Dragon. It will be her first time. She will probably need a few belts of good tequila to survive a weekend of my driving on those curvy hilly roads up there.
