What Is the small thing that hangs at the back of the mouth, and what is its purpose?

It's your uvula.

It keeps your voice from being nasal, can contribute to snoring, keeps food from getting into your nasal passages when you swallow, allows you to produce guttural sounds if your language is unfortunate enough to include them and provides one more bit of flesh for body modders to decorate.

Yours in basic anatomy,

Dear Ron:

In my continuing effort to educate the people who visit your thread....

How can direction be found using your watch, but not using a compass, GPS, etc?

Also, one cannot ask YOU for direction in this exercise!!!

Come on, that's an easy one. I learned it in Cub Scouts.
  • Get a little twig or piece of grass
  • Hold you watch level with the hour hand pointing in the sun's direction
  • Lay the twig across your watch halfway between the hour hand and the 12. The end between the hour hand and the 12 is pointing south.
Of course, if you're using a digital watch you're going to lay by the side of the road for months and then die.

Yours in improvised wayfinding,
Dear Ron:

Two issues with this...

One... I don't wear a watch!

Two... seems like most watches are digital!

What do you do in these cases?

Stay lost?

You die or you begin an inappropriate relationship with a Girl Scout.

Shame on you,

Yours in disapproval,
