For Dragon Newbies
It's really a good idea to drive the road and not the car in front of you. The same advice is always given to newbie bicycle racers for precisely the same reason. If you keep your eyes on the tire of the bike in front, invariably that's where you will ride, and it's never a good idea to touch wheels at 30 mph. It's also true with cars and the Dragon. Pay as much, if not more, attention to the road ahead as the car in front.

But it is at 11:00 at night!!

So Raul, myself and a few others got roped into driving up to deals gap at midnight to wait for what the locals call "hot laps". We never witnessed any such event. Instead we ended up talking to an interesting gold-wing rider who wanted us to start a company that specialized in decorative motorcycle lighting systems.
The other guys may tell you differently, but I still think that "hot laps" is the locals' version of the old "9th green at 9:00" trick.

This reminds me of the infamous "hot laps" (I think that is what the locals called it). Supposedly, the locals (Killboy, some guy in a C55 AMG, and a few others) meet at deals gap at midnight on Saturdays for an event called "hot laps", which is basically a time trials style event where one would drive the dragon down and back as fast as humanly possible. There were no prizes awarded; just bragging rights until the next Saturday.
