Default Driver's Meeting

Folks, during WTD 2008, we had our "mandatory" driver's meeting on Saturday morning around 8:30ish (despite the rainy weather). I've been noticing that attendance is getting to be less and less...

I think some of the reasons could be...
  • Folks already know the drill...
  • It's too early and some folks are still sleeping at that time...
  • Some folks are already on the Dragon?
  • Folks may not even know about the driver's meeting??
Honestly, I don't think the driver's meeting is necessary. I think with our earlier events (when we drove as a big group from Alcoa to the Dragon), we had a perfect opportunity to gather and sorta review the itinerary for the day and remind folks of not crossing the double yellows...

I'm confident folks know all of that now...we stress it a whole bunch here on the board.

So, I'm just curious...I don't think we need to have the driver's meetings anymore...what do you guys/gals think? Do you think a printed version would work? Incorporate with our itinerary??

We only had 22 cars attend the driver's meeting on Saturday morning...so about a quarter of the cars that were registered for WTD 2008. I don't want to waste anyone's time...so what do you think?

I made a special point to come to the driver's meeting just to hear you speak, Raul! Then I went back to bed for a few hours

i agree.....i think everything can be said on the registration now. Besides it may boost DBR attendance just so we can hear our yearly two, hour or so long speeches from you. After all they are the highlight of the events

I didn't show because I figured it was mostly about the big parade, which I didn't plan to attend because of a) weather and b) beer and c) I'm a wus when it comes to weather, lack of sleep, and the dragon. Something I'm working on.

But I heard the speech was great.

my thoughts exactly... if the Driver's Meeting was a noon, however... well then it wouldn't have been a problem!

...and to add to that - I really like the idea of the "Monster Roll Out" and a group picture as you all used to organize. Maybe we can postpone this until at least 10 (hey a lot of us are there on VACATION as well! ) and I'd make it every event

well, at least I'd try
