Mike -

That's not the quickest way, having done that drive probably 50 times the years we were in Cincy. Unless you are talking about hitting I-77 South of Charleston, WV. Then, it's fine.

We drove it about every way possible in those 9 years!

With I-40 closed down (they have a 140 mile detour!).....

I-77 from Charleston is the best way to go by far!

Funny how I didn't know about this but I still kinda showed up. I passed everyone a few times. I was with a dark silver 350z and a silver e46. We drove up to the Cherohala Skyway for some real fun though

Then came back down and went home. I go to the gap around once to twice a month depending on weather so if anyone ever feels a need for a run just contact me.

I had a great time this weekend in spite of being sick much of the time! Thanks to the Carolinas folks for their great hospitality Gary's waffles were awesome! I really wish I could have made it to dinner last night for what I heard was some really great pulled pork, but I was too sick to eat anything. Hope you guys enjoyed the tequila.

This was the perfect time of year to go. The roads were not crowded, the weather was great and the trees were beautiful. The drive was fun, and I got to drive some roads that I'd never been on. Sign me up for next year, I'm definitely in

As to the main topic, glad everyone had a blast this weekend! You all certainly had great weather, and I wish I could have been with you.

Mike,

Yep, I-77 is a decent way from Charleston to Charlotte, just not all the way down from say, Parkersburg! We used to go 32 to Jackson, then US 35 south, and hit I-64 around Nitro/St. Albans WV. and follow the WVA TPike south. We'd head out on 52 towards Winston Salem since we were heared further East than you are.

Quickest route we found, and believe me we tried most possible routes over the 9 years we were there.

Linda and I had a great time. It was good to see all the old friends and to meet new ones as well. Saturday's Hilltops and Hollers was memorable -- 8 S2000s snaking through the Smokies. This morning's run on The Dragon was one of the best yet.

Bryan -- quit your day job and go into the BBQ business! Bucky's would not have a chance against you.

Gary -- many thanks for the wafflles (we will now treat our waffle iron better knowing that it is so sought after) and the boiled peanuts!

Beth -- yummy sweet potato casserole! Garrett . . . . ?

Del -- many thanks to Carmel for the wonderful baked goods

And THANKS to all those I left out

We rolled into the driveway about 5 PM after taking the really scenic route home -- 28 to 74, then up the Nantahala Gorge to Wayah Road, over to Franklin, then 28 to Highlands, then 64 to Rosman, NC followed by 178 over the SC Hwy 11. What a day -- and not too much traffic.
