Gas at Deal's Gap is pretty reasonable but it's there manly for the bikes. You'll probably be able to fill your tank there until Saturday when they sometimes limit you to 8 gallons to avoid running their tank dry.

If you do get gas there, be sure to get in, get your gas and clear the parking lot. We park across the street to keep their lot open for bikes.

There's also gas 8 miles up 28 from Fontana Village. This is part of "Hellbender 28" and is a fun twisty drive. Just don't wait until you don't have enough gas to get there.

From the TN side of the Dragon, it's 14 miles to a gas station. Pay attention to your gauge when you're on that side. Our gas gauges read high when going through the twisties. You might get to the gravel lot with a quarter tank, stop and talk a while and start back up to find your gas light on. I get about 8 miles per gallon when I'm driving the Dragon. Your mileage may very.

Whatever you do, try to avoid buying gas at Fontana Village. They gouge with prices sometimes close to a dollar higher than those at the Gap and other stations. There's no reason for this and I avoid their station if at all possible.

See you soon.

regarding Fontana Village. If I recall, the last time I was there they had OLD pumps that couldn't even max their dollar/gallon posting...so they used WHITE OUT to reflect that the price was per HALF gallon . Uggh!

Of course, at their prices...since my last visit they've undoubtedly upgraded their pumps by now. Probably have gold-plated nozzles & stuff

Hell...years from now we'll look back and say, "damn, remember when gas was ONLY $5 a gallon!?!?"

Speaking of which...I found an old Dragon photo from 2001 where we were at a gas station and the damn sign reads $1.11 per gallon...but I betcha we were bitchin' about that price back then too...

Damn...I remember filling up my Dodge Shadow in high school for .83 a gallon...

Years?

Try months. Many Americans have no idea how perilous our supplies are. I do though.
